The anxiety people feel about the automation of the economy is entirely understandable.
To their credit, the Democratic Socialists (Bernie Sanders, AOC, etc.) are making a good move by bringing it up. From the perspective of people who make their living from a particular skill or trade, automation is an existential threat. After all, what good is automation to an unemployed worker if they don’t have an income with which to purchase the cheap goods and services that automation produces?
This is an entirely reasonable concern that absolutely needs to be addressed — just not in the way most people think.
