In today’s episode of “privileged rich kids get offended over nothing”, the student body president of Bates College called the police and the press after discovering a single flier posted on campus that said, “It’s Okay to be White.”
The police department responded by removing the fliers as they violated a city ordinance against posting bills on telephone polls, but the responding officers didn’t share in the fever dream delusion that this somehow constituted a hate crime.
And indeed, I find it it difficult to motivate myself to take issue with these fliers. Why isn’t it okay to be white? White people must be pretty nice if the worst thing that’s ever happened to you in Maine as a black guy is becoming student body president of the most expensive and prestigious school in the state and finding a flier that says it’s okay to be white.
Oh, the oppression! Oh, the horror!
