With the notable exception of the new public charge rule, Trump has been pretty weak on legal immigration since Mulvaney became his acting chief of staff in January of 2019.
Mulvaney was recently caught on a hot mic saying that the Trump administration is “desperate for more immigrants”, confirming suspicions that Mulvaney has, like Jared Kushner, been acting as an anti-MAGA, pro-Koch agenda force within the White House.
In case your memory isn’t long enough to remember, this isn’t exactly what Trump campaigned on in 2016.
