On Friday, the central bank of Afghanistan was informed that dollar shipments would stop. On Saturday, the central bank’s governor fled the country. On Sunday, the Taliban took control of Kabul.
It’s almost as though the United States used its status as international lender of last resort to collapse the Afghanistan government it created on purpose. At the very least, it is now irrefutable that the Afghan government was literally propped up by the United States — militarily AND financially.
Why collapse it on purpose after 20 years of propping it up, especially if it would have eventually collapsed on its own anyway? For “inclusivity”? I somehow doubt that.
